Sorry for the Yoda-ish title, but my family loves the Star Wars movies, and I believe what the title says. These are oddly enough, exciting times in America.
I will start with a reminder: ALL of human history is about what God is doing with His people. Every other story is secondary. So in America, we have to ask “what is God doing with His people?” The American church has become fat and lazy, and I think God is putting us on a strict diet and exercise plan. It will slowly become harder and harder to be a Christian in this nation. We see it happening already. Many church-goers attend today because it is easy, but that will change, and they won’t be there any longer. The American church has given many of its ministries to the government, taking care of poor (welfare), taking care of the sick (socialized medicine), but guess what, there is change coming there too. The foolish behavior of our national leaders allowed them to think they could spend their way out of debt. That ignorant idea has put this nation on the brink of total economic collapse. All debts eventually come due, and when that happens in America, there will be no way out. We will then be a nation of the haves and the have nots with no middle class. But here is where we start seeing the good news, between now and then, the exercise plan God put the Church on will have worked. The ministries the Church gave to the government won’t exist anymore. The Church will then be ready to be the shining light God has called us to be. The American Church, by God’s grace, will be lean and mean and will be there to meet the needs of the poor and sick. They will ask us “why?” and the Gospel message of Christ’s sacrificial love, grace and mercy for sinners will go back in to our nation because it’s the only answer to all of life’s problems.
Take courage and remember, this has all been done before. Read through the Old Testament and remind yourself how God works with nations, kings and leaders. He allowed wicked leaders as judgment on His people until they repented and returned to Him.
Yes, these are exciting times. Pray to the Lord that He will make you ready.
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” – Jesus (John 16:33)
